-          Writing is a time-consuming process

-          If to write a lot and often you usually repeat yourself in patterns, style or clichés,

-          Writing may seem not dynamic enough and become a studying routine rather than chance to shine.

We have prepared some tips how to overcome the issues with writing and take your papers to the next level.

Step 1. Reading.

  • You might have heard this piece of advice already a lot but we would like to focus the attention on one of its aspects. Here we recommend you not only to read the required sources in your field but also to read other people’s essays.
  • You can search for essays online or ask your group mates or friends to share their successful experience.
  • There are two major points how you can benefit from this:

-          You can observe, evaluate and learn the effective parts and patterns;

-          Mistakes of others are usually more obvious than the mistakes of your own, thus, you will be able to see them and try not to repeat in your papers.

  • When you are reading pay attention to the places you like and dislike. Try to analyze and think what makes them good or bad, what you remember after you finish reading, what triggers your interest.

Step 2. Vocabulary.

  • A proper vocabulary will let you express exactly what you mean and avoid misunderstandings from the reader’s side.
  • You may have heard that the best essay is concise and precise. Actually, these features deal with good vocabulary.
  • In order to develop your personal vocabulary you should follow next steps:

-          Check unknown words with dictionaries and note them if you feel you will need them for the research work;

-          Use thesaurus: it will help you to find synonyms and make your language more variable;

-          Learn word parts: suffixes, prefixes and roots. Most of the words have Latin and Greek origin and their parts often repeat in different combinations. Thus, if you know the components you will be able to create a new necessary word meaningful unit easily.

Step 3. Commonly used words.

-          We have already said a word against repetition but at the moment we would like to mention about some words which worth using often. What we mean are clichés that are commonly used in academic writing.

-          Look for typical transitive words, patterns that are used to prove the argument, phrases that support the structure. They are the markers of academic style.

Step 4. Quoting and citing.

  • Essay is a good place to demonstrate your intellect and how well read you are. Thus, you may use suitable sayings and quotations from the books you read. They will serve as a hook and trigger the reader’s interest.
  • Also, make sure you have worked on the required sources enough and revealed it in your paper by citing and referencing it properly.

Step 5. Revision.

  • Remember the rule that writing is in fact re-writing. You should never forget to check your essay several times and not be afraid to modify it.
  • Make sure that such small things as punctuation, spelling or grammar errors do not reduce your grade.
