Habits That Will Help You Learn English

Habit

The habit is second nature. Classes with teachers, trips abroad or conversations with foreigners occur with a certain regularity, but not always as often as we would like. We would like to bring to your attention seven useful actions, which, having entered the daily habit, will help you learn English quickly. Undoubtedly, the path of studies still remains thorny and long, but it can be overcome faster and more efficiently. If you really concern yourself with this, there will not be a feeling of routine even after a few years of living with these habits.

Many people who study a foreign language complain about the lack of time, the language environment or the ability to travel abroad. But nothing prevents you from creating such a language environment in your life. Of course, others cannot be forced to speak English, and the language of signs on the streets cannot be changed, but you can contact English more each day.

So, we go directly to useful habits.

  1. Change the interface language of gadgets and install applications in English

Every day you set an alarm clock, receive messages, check mail, easily navigating in your gadgets. Then why not change the operating system language of your computer or smartphone to English? At the initial stage of the study, this will help you memorize basic words that you will certainly not forget after a month of use! And do not forget to install some useful programs for your gadget.

  2. Regularly watch television programs in English

For many, daily watching TV became the norm of life, there are favorite programs and hundreds of foreign channels. Do not miss the opportunity to see the program you are interested in the original language, although we know that it will not be easy at first. Morning news, where one simultaneously reports on the financial situation, exchange rates and novelties of technology, will cause difficulties when viewing. We advise you to choose those programs where the same phrases are repeated every day. For example, weather forecasts or interviews with show business stars: here similar questions are asked. Over time, you will be able to choose programs not by complexity, but at will.

  3. Become a foreign correspondent

This can easily be done by going out, walking in the park, waiting for a friend in a mall. Imagine that you are a correspondent of a radio program who visits an unfamiliar country. Listeners are interested in everything that happens around, and your task is to satisfy their interest and describe everything that you see. This habit helps repeat/study words of daily use, build sentences in English, and also think in English over time. For example, you went out to work on a rainy day in the morning and start your "reportage". If you meet an unfamiliar word – write it down, if possible – look in the dictionary, remember and, while conducting a "reportage" on the way home, try to include it in your story.

When you will be tired of describing surrounding situations and ideas will no longer remain, you can translate conversations of other people, overheard in transport or at work. Signs of shops and restaurants, company names are also suitable. It is exciting!

  4. Keep a diary or blog in a foreign language

The ultimate goal can be keeping a diary or blog with regular records. The immediate goal in conditions of lack of time or rich imagination may be several sentences on the brightest event of the day. Our life is filled with interesting moments, we are sure that you have something to share and what to write about any day.

To ensure that this habit does not shoot in the eye in the form of memorizing and studying the same mistakes in the language (which you may not suspect if you are studying English by yourself), you need to check what you are writing. This can be done with the help of special language platform, where native speakers check written notes for literacy. You, in turn, can correct those who learn your native language.

  5. Describe a subject for one minute in English

Choose for yourself the "hero of the day" – any of surrounding or fictional subjects and describe it in one minute. Try to talk about it as much as possible, beginning with external signs, ending with reasons for its being here. You can do this both for yourself and for a grateful audience in the person of friends or colleagues.

  6. Learn at least 10 words every day

Replenishment of the vocabulary is undoubtedly a very important aspect of the study of the language. Let you get into the habit memorizing at least ten new words a day. This process must be treated reasonably so that it will bear fruit. Arbitrary choice of words from a dictionary will not be effective. It is better for this to take the vocabulary of frequency and to learn words in context, to memorize simultaneously all forms of each word and try to immediately find an application for them. For example, you decided to learn names of foods and started with fruits. When you visit a supermarket, go along boxes with fruit and remember the name of each of them in English. There are mobile applications that offer to learn a certain number of words per day.

  7. Communication with friends-native speakers in a foreign language

The time when a native speaker of English was someone unattainable sunk into oblivion. Now everyone can get such friends and periodically call up to them for information exchange and active language practice. There are a lot of websites and thousands of volunteers who are interested in communicating with people from all over the world! USA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand ... What can be more remarkable than a fascinating conversation with a person of a different culture? And if you still do not know where to find an interlocutor to improve your knowledge, do not be upset and just start to act.

Of course, not everyone has a high level of self-organization, often we give ourselves a break, and it is doubly easier to do in the absence of control from, for example, a teacher. Half of the people who study English for a long time can not decide to "get" such habits in their lives. At the same time, the other half immediately grabs everything, does not have time to properly perform everything, loses motivation and interest. Among many options for learning, find the optimal one that will bear fruit.

Depending on goals and the pace of learning the language, you can make yourself a scheme for a busy person. At home, at breakfast, you can watch the weather forecast in English, on the way to work – to describe events occurring around. Working with a computer and other equipment, pay attention to English words of the interface, at the lunch break, learn a dozen new words, and after work, repeat them. In the evening, write a short note in a diary or blog, and on the weekend, call up with native speakers. This is a matter of taste, so everyone chooses the optimal way for themselves to introduce useful habits for learning English depending on the way of life. So you will not tire of your new actions, and the fruits of learning will not keep you waiting!
